HVAC repair — when you know it is broken, not yet why
When you know it is broken, not yet why — diagnosis first, then the repair.
This page is for the call that starts with “the system isn’t working.” You may not know if it is the furnace, the AC, the heat pump, the thermostat, or the ducts. That is fine. General repair is the diagnosis visit. We find the failed part of the system, tell you what it is, and fix it when a repair is the right spend.
It is not the same page as AC repair (cooling-side failures) or furnace repair (heat, combustion, and heat-exchanger safety). Those exist when you already know which box failed. It is also not emergency HVAC. If the house is unsafe or someone is vulnerable in a heat wave or a freeze, start there and call (510) 375-7839 now. If the system is lame — short cycles, one dead room, a thermostat that lies, a blower that sounds wrong — this is the page.

What the visit looks like
What the visit looks like. We start at the thermostat and the power, then the filter and airflow, then the indoor blower, then the outdoor unit or the burners — whichever the season and the symptom point to. A lot of “HVAC is broken” calls are a filter, a tripped switch, a failed capacitor that serves both seasons, a blower motor, or a thermostat that lost its mind after a power blip. Some are a heat pump in a bad defrost or a reversing-valve fault. Some are ducts that came loose in the attic, which is sheet-metal work, not a gadget on the condenser. We tell you which it is before we ask you to approve a part.
Repair versus replace
We do not use the diagnostic to walk you into a changeout you did not ask for. Repair versus replace is the same rule on every BlueSky page: under about 10 years with a contained repair, we fix it; 12–15+ years, R-22, a cracked heat exchanger, or a repair over about a third of a new system, we put both numbers on paper. If the honest next step is HVAC installation, we will say so and schedule it like a separate job. If a HVAC tune-up would have caught it, we will say that after you have heat or cool again.
Solano systems fail for local reasons even on a “general” call. Inland dust loads filters and coils. Marine air in Vallejo and Benicia corrodes outdoor electrical. Older houses hide disconnected returns. None of that changes the sequence: measure, explain, then repair.
Hours
Shop hours are Monday–Saturday, 7AM–7PM. After hours and Sunday, call the owners. We do not post Sunday shop hours. Installs we do carry a 100% workmanship guarantee. Repairs are done to last, not to close the ticket.

Call or text (510) 375-7839 or email info@blueskyha.com. Tell us the city, whether you have any heat or any cool, and what changed — noise, smell, a breaker, a room that died. That is enough to start.
