Benicia sits on the north shore of the Carquinez Strait. Marine air moves through that gap most days, which is why Benicia summers are milder than Vacaville or Dixon — until a heat wave knocks the marine layer down and temperatures jump. It does not mean every condenser is doomed. It does mean we look at the outdoor unit’s condition, not just the error code, and we talk about rinsing coils and keeping the cabinet off wet soil and overgrown planters.
